Solution

ArcGIS Survey123
Benefits
A public cloud solution that can easily and quickly be configured for creating and sharing information
The mission of the AVA is to advance education and research on the recognition, treatment, and prevention of the health effects of violence and abuse throughout the life course. AVA South Africa is headed by Dr. Melanie Moen from the Department of Early Childhood Education.
The Challenge
The Department of Early Childhood Education required a community support application to link community members who have experienced adversities with suitable support organisations in their immediate areas. It was important to find a platform that could tell a story, capture information, and show information spatially using limited resources.
The Solution
ArcGIS StoryMaps provides the benefit of a cloud solution that can easily and quickly be configured for the purpose of sharing information. The application allows for spatial and non-spatial data such as PDF documents and images. A GeoForm was also configured and included in the StoryMap to gather information on the location of help centres, and the results were displayed on a map for easy access to a community member that required consultation and assistance. The link for the StoryMap is made available on community social media forums as well as the University of Pretoria’s Academy on Violence and Abuse website page.
Conclusion
The ArcGIS StoryMaps provides educators, health care workers, law enforcement, and parents with information relating to the recognition, treatment, and prevention of the effects of adversity, violence and abuse in South Africa. Link to StoryMap //arcg.is/3uOw2Th
