Infratec Advisory was appointed to assist Thembelihle Local Municipality, situated in the Northern Cape, with the verification of assets belonging to the municipality. Asset verification refers to the locating and inspecting of assets that belong to the municipality. Infratec Advisory helped locate the assets, verify their location and condition, work out costs involved concerning these assets and compile registers.
The initial challenge was locating the assets. This would normally involve individually typing in the location of an asset on a GPS and physically going there to verify the asset. Details on each asset must be manually written down. Pictures also have to be taken of each asset and then allocated to the manually collected information. This method proves very time consuming and requires a great deal of manpower and paperwork.
However, making use of the Esri platform, Infratec Advisory were able to map all the assets that belonged to the municipality. They were able to easily navigate to each asset, could update, remove or add data concerning any asset while also taking pictures of these assets. This could all be done with the click of a button and minimal manpower. High definition imagery maps were printed with all the assets mapped out and indicated on them. The digital maps could be used for navigation, an indication of work completed and work outstanding. Data could be backed-up daily, limiting the possibility of data being lost.
ArcGIS Pro was used as well as ArcGIS Online, Collector for ArcGIS and Survey123 for ArcGIS. By utilising ArcGIS Software, Infratec Advisory were able to significantly reduce the manpower needed, costs, paperwork and risks, while increasing production.
